The Doctor said that Mark had a fracture on the left side of his pelvis that has already been healing for the 5 weeks that he has been here. On his right side they had to put 3 plates with 2 screws in each. And 1 was also put in the front to pull the left and the right side together, with four screws. From looking at the X-rays the screws look to be about 1 inch long, about the size of a wood screw. The plates look more like pieces of tape with holes drilled in it,about 1/2 inch apart. I think they said that these were all titanium. Mark did have a large pocket of fluid build up in his pelvic area, they said it did not look infected but they cleaned it all out and will check it for bacteria. Mark, will be able to be lifted to a wheel chair in about 3 days. He will be able to pivot his body using the left leg after 8 weeks after from the original injury. He will have to wait 8 weeks to use his right side. The trachea tube will be down sized today and he will be able to communicate. they will continue to monitor the wound site for a couple days. He still has a chest drain in the left side. I think he is on his way to a speedy recovery. Thank you God, for Dr. Dickson and the skill that he mastered under your guidance.
Thank You, for all the prayers. Love to all, Betty

Tears of joy - I love tears of joy!!!!!! I know there are alot of ups and downs to go but God will get Mark and the family through. Many prayers are still going up.
I love you all.
Love,
Karen Bills (cousin)
P.S. Give Mark a pen and paper for when he is to tired to talk.
Many, many prayers have been answered in the past few weeks. God is soooo good!!!!
Again, thank you so much for doing the blog everyday so we can keep up on Mark’s progress. It is so good to hear of all the progress his has made in the past week!
John and I will be in the Houston area on September 7th (I think) and we really want to come by and see Mark. It sounds like we may not have to come by the hospital though - it sounds like he will probably be in rehab then.
Tell Wayman and Sharon “Hi” for me! Love you guys. Hug Mark for me and tell him his “Older” cousin loves him and is praying for him (and the whole family).
Just received a phone call from Betty and she asked that I make a post. She had some news that she wanted to share with all. Mark just past his swallow test, he ate some applesauce and drank some grape juice. She also told me that he wanted more,so she thinks that he may possibly be able to start eating some regular food soon so therefore the feeding tubes would be able to be removed. She told me that his pneumonia was worse today, she feel that with him being flat on his back during the surgery and then also afterwards that was the contributor to making it worse. Betty told me that Mark was going for a test, that Mom & Dad headed to Magnolia to rest and that she was going to rest for a while.
Thanks and love to all who are reading the blogs and sending prayers for a speedy recovery.
Until I blog again,
Karen

Great news about the food, I bet applesauce has never tasted so good. One step at a time, but he's on his way. I believe pneumonia after surgery is very common especially if you are not able to get up and move around, and do deep breathing exercises. So the DRs should be on top it. We will continue to pray for Mark and you Betty as you are taking such excellent care of him. Have a blessed evening. Love and prayers, Sallie, Scott & Noah Keaton
Boy, that sure is a lot of good news today. The prayers are still coming your way!
The updates are wonderful. We won't know how to act when the blog is not needed anymore. It is such a big part of our daily(hourly)routine.
Love,
Lynn(almost youngest cousin) and gang
